Jan 20 Meeting: Highlights

exclamation1

A couple of important topics were discussed at our January 20th meeting. Not everyone could make the meeting so I thought I would just summarize the important points below. Please read!! (I have uploaded the minutes to the Yahoo group as well).

Low Vision Project (Gina):
Originally, we were going to collaborate with the CNIB for a people-based project, but because their volunteer coordinator resigned in January, they are unable to accommodate us currently. So we are looking into other ideas like helping out at the homeless shelter. Everyone should have gotten a email from Gina (the chair of this project) regarding this. Let me know if you didn’t receive the email by replying to this post. (Or email calgarynhleos@gmail.com). Please kindly let Gina know whether or not you will partake in this project.

Skate -a-Kid-to-Camp (Chris):

Refer to pdf.

Sight Awareness Campaign (Shannon):

Due to the recession in the economy, we are considering a more feasible project.  Originally, the plan was to contact optometrists across the city to donate a portion of their profits on a set date to vision related causes, but with the current situation with the economy, we think this idea might not work as well.  While a good idea, I guess we will have to wait for a better opportunity. We are in search of a new project at the moment. Please refer to the minutes for the full details on this one.  If you have any ideas, please reply to the post and let us know!

Peace Posters (Raymond N.)

It’s that time of the year again where we start our planning for one of our biggest annual projects. At the meeting, a committee sign-up sheet was passed around. For those who weren’t at the meeting, but are interested on signing up for the committee to help with the planning, please email Raymond Nguyen or reply to the post and let us know! (I won’t post his email here to avoid his email from getting spammed by bots, but you can find his email in our club contact list on our yahoo group under files.)

Boxes, boxes and more boxes

Boxes, boxes and more boxes

you to everyone who came onto MSN for the meeting.  Boxes have been set-up at Edge High School, Webber Academy, Hamptons Elementary, business offices, and the medical clinic on 16th Avenue.  Boxes in the other schools will be setup very soon.

The next step is to distribute Sight Night door-hangers to give people time to look for any old unwanted glasses they may have. We have 250 to distribute, but we can make more if needed.

Door-hanger distributing team (Oct 20-24th)

  • Michelle
  • Kim

  • Shannon
  • Amy

Eyeglass Hunting Team (Oct 31st):

We can always use more people on both teams. The more area we can cover the better.  So let me know if you can help out!
