How do I join the Calgary North Hill Leos?
To join, you must be living in Calgary and are between the ages of 16-28. To get into contact with us, just send us a email at calgarynhleos@gmail.com.
Is there a fee for joining Leos?
There is a small membership fee of $10 per term (or $20 for the entire year). This money is used towards the administrative costs of running the club.
The goal of Leos is to promote leadership, cooperation and positive character. As well, a major goal for the Calgary North Hill Leos for 2008/2009, is to develop a strong sense of identity: The Knights of the Blind.

What is the difference between active members and affiliate members?
Both active and affiliate members must pay an annual membership fee of $20 for the entire year (or $10 every term). Active members are expected to come to as many general meetings as they can and are allowed to chair committees or join committees. Affiliate members, on the other hand, are expected to come to at least one meeting each term and while they are not allowed to chair committees, they are encouraged to join committees and help the group out during events. Whether you’re an active member or an affiliate, we hope that you will experience what it means to be a Leo!
How often are general meetings?
General meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday every month from 7pm-8pm.
How often are committee meetings?
Most committees should meet at least once a week for one hour, but depending on the task the committee is assigned, this can vary widely.
What is the difference between general meetings and committee meetings?
General meetings are held at a set time and date (see above) every month and are mainly for dealing with the business matters of the club such as budget approvals, letters addressed to the club, bringing up new project ideas and the presenting of committee reports.
Committee meetings can vary much more in terms of duration, time and form of meeting (ie. MSN, in person, phone etc.). The committee, however, is advised to meet at least once a week. These meetings are where all the planning and organizing of the details of projects occur. Issues such as delegating tasks to members, brainstorming, resolving issues should all occur in committee meetings and not general meetings. At general meetings, chairs should be presenting the results of their committee meetings!
What do I do if I really can’t make it to a general meeting?
Please send a email to the president/vice president/secretary and advisors stating your reason of absence before the date of the meeting. We understand every Leo has other commitments too! (Please keep yourself updated by reading the minutes.)
What happens if I miss 3 consecutive meetings?
Unfortunately, if you miss 3 consecutive general meetings with no valid reason(s), we will have to revoke your Leo membership. Since we only meet every 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month, that’s almost missing 2 months of activity! We hope members refrain from overcommitting themselves and consider which type of membership (active or affiliate) is the better option for their schedule.
Why is it necessary to follow parliamentary procedure during meetings?
By following parliamentary procedure, meetings become much more effective and efficient. It ensures that everyone will get a chance to voice their opinion and only one person is talking at a time.
How do I access the member files?
You must be a Calgary North Hill Leo to access the member files. You will be asked to set up an account with Yahoo, after which we will send you an invitation to join the Calgary North Hill Leos’ Yahoo Group.
Important files that you can find there are the contact list of members, past minutes, agendas and photos of events. Most importantly is that by joining the group, you can have the option of subscribing to our mailing list, in which you can then receive important information about meetings, reminders and updates.
I’m a Leo member, but why am I not receiving emails regarding updates and meeting information?
You must join the Calgary North Hill Leos Yahoo Group and subscribe to our mailing list before you can receive our emails. If you have completed those steps and you still do not receive our emails, please send a email calgarynhleos@gmail.com regarding your problem and we will get it fixed as soon as we can.

Can I join a committee if I’m an affiliate member?
Yes, definitely! Both active members and affiliate members are strongly encouraged to join a committee. Committee meetings are more flexible than our general meetings and can be convenient as the meetings can be held over the phone or MSN or any convenient means. In fact, most of our manpower is needed in committees. Any help is much appreciated!
Why can’t I chair a committee if I’m an affiliate member?
Unfortunately, while affiliate members can join committees, they can not chair a committee. The reason is because the chair is responsible for presenting their project reports to the group at the general meetings, in which all active members must attend.
