Who are the Calgary North Hill Leos?

Leadership, Experience, Opportunity…

We are a non-profit youth volunteer club sponsored by the Calgary North Hill Lions Club since April 28, 2003. As Knights of the Blind, we aim to help the blind in any way possible.

In general, Leos is a youth version of the Lions clubs.  The Lions Clubs International is a worldwide community service organization with 1.3 million members.  There are more than 45,000 Lions clubs in over 200 countries! Currently, there are approximately 5,550 Leo clubs in over 130 countries.

We invite all interested individuals in Calgary between the ages 16-35 who are motivated and hoping to make a difference to the community to join us.

Where did it all start?

The first Leo club to be established in the world was the Abington High School Leo Club, which was sponsored by the Glendside Lions Club in Pennsylvania, USA, in 1957.

Each Leo club has a sponsoring Lions club, and an advisor from the Lions club oversees the activities of the Leo club, providing guidance where needed.  Leo clubs, however, remain independent from the sponsoring club, with their own board of directors, their own bank accounts, and their own meetings.

There are two types of Leo clubs: Alpha clubs and Omega clubs. Alpha clubs are for youth aged 12-18, and Omega clubs are for youth ages 18-35.

For more information about the Leo Club Program, please refer to the Youth Programs section of the Lions Web site at www.lionsclubs.org.
